Week 2: FINAL PROJECT - Step 1 -

Hello Robert and everyone,

I am working in Central University of Ecuador as English teacher where students need to study and to pass 8 levels of a foreign language as a requirement before finishing their college career . The Centre of Languages is the place at the University where students learn English, French . Chinese, and Quechua . My class is about 30 students with different learning styles and it is a mixed ability group who some of them detest English because they find it hard to speak. The majority of them are second and third year university student, so I suppose they are advance level.
They study different subjects in Spanish such as, Medicine, Technical Education, Social Communication, Engineering, Law, Accounting, Turism, Arts, etc. Students attend classes 2 hours every day from Monday to Friday during a period of 6 weeks ( 60 hours) in order to complete one English level.

My university does not have a multimedia lab, there is only a class with internet access but no wireless connection, so it is necessary to use a computer and a projector. Some students have access to internet at their homes and others in internet cafés.

My project consists of: HOW CAN YOU DEVELOP THE ENGLISH SKILLS?
I will work the platform Moodle.org and use the site http://colrosario.edu.ec/campus/
about HOW CAN YOU DEVELOP THE ENGLISH SKILLS? where my students improve and develop of the four basic skills (listening, reading, speaking, writing) through the forums, chats, and blogs.
I am going to work with students of first level of Universidad Central del Ecuador (Language Center), they are from 18 to 29 years old.
For more information about the platform you can search engine http://moodle.org/
Regards,
Pitie, Ecuador

  1. Hello Piedad

Very nice picture, and fine post. Still I hope to emphasize in this course that it is good practice in general to start with a need, then find a tool to address that need. Many people start with the tool, then try to make their class fit the tool.

It sounds like you have been thinking about moodle for awhile and weighing your options. But you should still do a small needs analysis for your project. That comes in week 4 and 5.

    Robert
