WEEK 8
TEACHER RESOURCES ONLINE
Dear all,
This has been other amazed week because we have made a lot of things and have learned new things, too. First of all, I ended my draft project and sent it. Then, I chose to my partner Janeth to be my peer. We have to interchange our project plans and have to make suggestions about them according our knowledge and experience. After that I read about ANVILL. This was the first time I have read and learn something about it. I know that it is National Virtual Language Lab, and as its name suggest it is a modern web based replacement for the audio and video consoles of old. To use ANVILL we need three tools, a microphone and / or a webcam, a modern browser and ADOBE.
ANVILL has been a new world full of helpful tools, the most that caught my attention was TCAST because you can record short audios or share videos in your lessons,. I really would like to use it.
Another important thing was that I created my nicenet, some flash cards and bingo. It could be solved as a warm up or as a part of the procedure of the class. This is important because classes are more interactive and students could create similar ones in no more than ten or twelve minutes. Then , I made some comments about my partner’s job.
I am really happy to have access to this kind of opportunities that technology provides since it helps us change the concept of teaching into a modern and active one. I did not know that we have the possibility to create our own online exercises with the feature that we can adapt and apply them according to our students' necessities and topics. Great week, isn´t it?
Best,
Lucy

Final week
It is incredible, but we are ending this course. It is too hard to work and study at the same time.
I discovered a new world that provided me with interesting and amazing activities.
I discovered a new world that provided me with interesting and amazing activities.
Definitely I will use blogs, Nicenet and delicious page with my students because of my experience in the final project of this online course, students felt really motivated to use them. Unfortunately there is not a multimedia lab at the University, but I was thinking about a solution to deal with this problem. I am going to buy a device offered by mobile companies that provides internet for computers. So at least I will be able to implement one computer class online activities with my students.
Then, I made a summary about all I have learned in these amazing nine weeks. I have learned a lot for example: I created a Delicious page, I created my Blog, I learned about Call for the Oral and Aural computer communication, I learned ideas for Teaching Writing Genres with the help of the computer components, I learned how to use Planning for Instructions, how to use Webquests, how to teach in Large Classes and Inter Active Power Point, how to be autonomous in learning, how to use ANVILL, Multiple Intelligences and Learning Styles.
Finally, I am really impressed of the great community learning that we formed in this online course. Everyone shared online activities, websites, and ideas to help each other become better teachers.
I am going to miss my colleagues’ nicenet discussions, blogs comments and Robert’s mails.
Best,
Pitie, Ecuador

WEEK 9 : FINAL PROJECT
Dear all,
This week has been productive, , because writing my project report let me share what I have learnt in this amazing course and how I applied the new knowledge with my students.

On the other hand, I am really grateful of learning more about MI.
This simple grid diagram illustrates Howard Gardner's model of the Multiple Intelligences at a glance.
1. intelligence type/ capability and perception
2. Linguistic /words and language
3. Logical-Mathematical/logic and numbers
4. Musical/music, sound, rhythm
5. Bodily-Kinesthetic/ body movement control
6. Spatial-Visual/images and space
7. Interpersonal/other people's feelings
8. Intrapersonal/self-awareness
Although, the most important teaching lesson that I learnt was to take into account all my students intelligences in my lesson plans.

As teacher of small or big groups it is necessary to take into account each student with his or her difference and work in his or her strengths and weaknesses.
Fortifying our students’ strengths the answer to the learning process will increase while their weaknesses will develop too.

WEEK 8

Another important thing was that I created my nicenet, some flash cards and bingo. It could be solved as a warm up or as a part of the procedure of the class. This is important because classes are more interactive and students could create similar ones in no more than ten or twelve minutes. Then , I made some comments about my partners jobs. I want to tell something for the next participants in other course, it is necessary to take classes or a course to be updated in technology because in this way we could learn more and participate better than I do.
Great week, isn´t it?

WEEK 7: Learner Autonomy

It is important to understand that the learning autonomy is a perennial dynamic process amenable educational interventions rather than a static product, a state, which is reached once and for all.
The term autonomy has been used in different ways but it includes independence, language awareness, self-direction. The autonomous learner takes a proactive role in the learning process. To develop the learner autonomy could involve: learner needs, motivation, learning strategies and language awareness. Autonomy does not mean teacher less learning. It means that the teacher must show the way to use or discover the mental steps or operations that learners use to regulate their effort to learn.
Then, I made a sample of one computer class plan. I followed the steps to make a class which involves Web site: http://www.rong-chang.com/easyread/es/easy118.htm: Problems at home.
In the sample I mentioned general information about the class, theme, duration, number of students, the materials used in class, the introduction to the class, the ABCD objective for this lesson, the procedure, the activities, the way I used technology ( computer, projector, internet, etc, and the final activity.
Best regards,

Week 6: Creating Student-centered Classes and Interactive PowerPoint
Hello everybody,
This week my reflective blog will be about :
1. Technology in Teaching Large Classes.
2. FORUM : Writing for the World: Wikipedia as an Introduction to Academic Writing”
3. Power Point
First, Using Technology in Teaching Large Classes from UO tell us how we can manage large classrooms and Technology is the biggest support in large university class I like this kind of support. For example
• Online Assessment
• Respondus
• Portable Computers and Projectors for Classrooms
• Successful Lectures with Computer Projection
• Unleashing the Power of PowerPoint
• Using Clickers (Personal Response Systems) to Facilitate Active Learning in the Classroom
I guess if we have a lot of students in class, technology is one of the best tools to solve this problem because all of the students are working and have the opportunity to get participation. However, I consider this kind of technology is not available in the high school and at university where I work because you have to pay to use the software like Blackboard and Respondus. If you get the opportunity to use them you can save time because all the activities about test and grades the software does for you.
On the other hand, Referring ”Writing for the World: Wikipedia as an Introduction to Academic Writing” Students can explore topics that interest them, while drawing on their multilingual resources and cultural experiences to write from a knowledgeable position. In producing a text for Wikipedia, students gain a real sense of audience and enjoy the satisfaction of seeing their work published on a high-traffic global website.
Finally, Power Point allowed me to realize that it can increase the independence and autonomy in students because following some instructions they can learn by themselves, practice can also enhance their knowledge.

Week 5 DISCUSSION: Assessment, rubrics and PBL
This, as the other week have been just rewarding.! Personally I've learnt a lot! What about you?
The web offers new kinds of learning opportunities and new tools for assessment. I would share with you the following:
1. Alternative assessment uses activities that reveal what students can do with language, emphasizing their strengths instead of their weaknesses. In another way it lets our students learn from themselves and their peers not only from the teacher.
2. "Project Based Learning", written by Susan Gaer. I feel very captivated because she mentions how she started teaching less and learning more, and I felt surprised. I think that folktales is very useful and interesting in the way students who made the mistake don't feel embarrassed. Besides they like making activities like ( recipes, Folktales, etc) to work in groups so they practice their collaborative skills and become more respectful, tolerant.
3. WEBQUEST, what a useful tool for planning an activity!. What I like the most about this is the functionality to work in groups. Besides, assessment is included, students can use rubrics to assessment their own work. There is no ground for claims or doubts.
4. My Rubric: It was very interesting and useful for all my webparnert s. Here you have my rubric: Rubric ID # is: 2051058 . Rubric Title : Video - Talk Show : Discovery Channel.
In conclusion, these tools give us innovative ideas to get our students to achieve their language knowledge in a very different way, and above students will acquire a significant understanding.

Week 4: Project Step #3: Class Issue
I am working in Central University of Ecuador as English teacher where students need to study and to pass 8 levels of a foreign language as a requirement before finishing their college career and they are from 18 to 29 years old. The principal problem is that there are 35 to 40 students in each classroom and the building is inadequate to 2000 or more students .Thus, we have to go to different faculties to dictate the English class.
On the other hand, teachers have to find our own useful materials to teach because the institute only give us the books, the class and a CD player, so that we have to figure out the best method, techniques or strategies to work.
On the other hand, teachers have to find our own useful materials to teach because the institute only give us the books, the class and a CD player, so that we have to figure out the best method, techniques or strategies to work.
However ,we prepare extra materials such as: lyrics, puzzles, games, role play, debates, pictures /prediction, TPR/ gestures and quotes to motivate my students to learn English .
Finally, It’s not simple to apply technology in the classroom because I don't have enough equipment or tools.

Week 4: Lesson Plan and Discussion: Reading, Writing, Vocabulary Skills
Hello everybody,
I would like to start with a quote:
Firstly, I think that read about lesson plans from the University of Tennessee have been a support to increase the English knowledge of our students and us too. Reading the template was at the beginning a little exhausted but when I was developing it was useful and attractive.
My classmates shared excellent ideas where they have included different topics for being practiced with the use of technology such that learn about new vocabulary, grammar, share ideas, create debates.
In reference to Discussion: Reading, Writing, Vocabulary Skills
The present paper "Using the Internet in ESL Writing Instruction", by Jarek Krajka tries to explore the issue of the use of the Internet as a teaching aid, or as a teaching medium, through which students are taught how to write different writing genres.
I did an analysis the most basic writing genres, such as a letter to a friend, a formal letter, a biography, a description of a person, a for-and-against essay, a notice and an advertisement, a description of a festival/ceremony, a description of a book/film/play, a newspaper report, an opinion essay and a description of a place and I will attempt to demonstrate how, with the help of selected websites or other on-line techniques, writing instruction can be made more interesting, appealing, motivating and authentic.
Disadvantage : higher levels of proficiency or Advanced , but they are very important and useful to develop the writing skill.

Conclusion
I totally agree with the author have said, the Web should not be used all the time, or the Web materials only, but a teacher should enrich lessons with the Net component when it is really profitable for students and could help them in their learning. However, it could be said that writing instruction should be enriched with the Internet component, in order to provide students with choice, variety, authenticity, and regency and to give them a real purpose for writing.

ABCD Objective:
Advanced Writing students (Audience), after reading "Abortion: All sides of the issue in Canada" online and finding out information on Abortion (Condition), will share their opinions on abortion in a class discussion, write an argumentative essay and make comments on their peers' work (Behavior) in one post on their own blog and two comments (Degree).

Week 3 Project Step 2
Author: Aleyda Linares from Universidad Pedagogica
Nacional Francisco Morazan of Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
Project: Building Teaching Skills Through the Interactive Web Project Report.
Hi Robert and friends,
After reading some projects, I decided to talk about " Building Teaching Skills Through the Interactive Web Project Report" , because I think is very important and useful.
Hi Robert and friends,
After reading some projects, I decided to talk about " Building Teaching Skills Through the Interactive Web Project Report" , because I think is very important and useful.
Aleyda centers her attention in grammar knowledge for improving the English skills (reading – writing skills -technology skills and acquire skills in electronic communication) she promotes the use of a reflective blog as a journal with the intention of motivating her students in the use of the second language inside and outside the classroom by using a large number of grammar tests, exercises and games downloaded from different websites. Thus, she sends her students mail instructions for their next assignments strengthen in this way the use of the computer skills.
I really liked this project , Adeyda expresses how the use of Technology can change the mentality of the students about the foreign language helping them to acquire new important knowledge and have fun at the same time.

Week 3 Discussion: Oral Aural Skill Building
1. Developing Listening Skills with Authentic Materials:
http://www.elthillside.com/up/files/article4.doc
http://www.elthillside.com/up/files/article4.doc
Firstly, thank you so much Robert to help us.
I`ve read an article about Developing listening skills with Authentic Materials. This is the first time that know that a human being uses 40% in listening; 35% in speaking; 16% in reading , and 9% in writing. I know now that authentic texts are any spoken texts, delivered via technology like radio, television-video and the Internet ( CD-ROM ).
I recommend this URL because I can find some suggestions how develop listening skill through Radio, TV/Video, The Internet/CD-ROM , each of them have some stages. For instance, Pre-, While-, and Post-listening activities and make some advice as to how they can be used with authentic materials delivered through technological media, Internet/CD-ROM
Ø - Radio: with an intermediate group of learners about to listen to a radio program on travel we might adopt the following procedure.
Ø - TV/Video : with elementary-level we might consider the following out-of-class activity.
Ø - Internet/CD-ROM : With an advanced group of learners we might consider having extended critical and creative discussion about the news.
To sum up, to produce a real interaction an communication is necessary the human beings , web sites can help us with extra resources, as I mentioned videos, audio material, music, news, but this is the weakness I could notice around de web, it was really useful in pronunciation exercises, but in real communication I agree with the author of the article that the speaking skill is still weak.
2. Speaking lesson plans at One Stop English
(http://www.onestopenglish.com/skills/speaking/teaching-ideas/).-
In this URL we can find tips and tricks to help you prepare for English speaking practice in the classroom. There are a lot of activities like Drama activities, First day, Get out of the classroom 1, Get out of the classroom 2, Dramatic dialogues, Using OK. Besides, I searched by Skills section for over 3,000 innovative and engaging materials, including teaching ideas and downloadable activities for listening, reading, speaking, writing and pronunciation skills, as well as articles with lots of practical ideas to integrate these skills into your lessons, all written by our team of expert authors. This section also contains an extensive bank of Vocabulary materials, plus our popular weekly and monthly
For me I recommend the 6 speaking activities for the FIRST DAY OF CLASS: They are:
1. In common. (Elementary +, 10-20 minutes)
2. Tell me about me. (Pre-Intermediate + , 30 minutes)
3. Make the Rules. (Intermediate +, 30-45 minutes)
4. A good way to learn English is. (Intermediate +, 10-20 minutes)
5. Variations on the Name Whip. (All levels, 5-15 minutes)
6. Funny Holidays. (Intermediate +, 30 minutes)
