Week 6: Creating Student-centered Classes and Interactive PowerPoint

Hello everybody,

This week my reflective blog will be about :
1.      Technology in Teaching Large Classes.
2.      FORUM : Writing for the World: Wikipedia as an Introduction to Academic Writing”
3.      Power Point

First, Using Technology in Teaching Large Classes from UO tell us how we can manage large classrooms and Technology is the biggest support in large university class I like this kind of support. For example

•   Online Assessment
•   Respondus
•   Portable Computers and Projectors for Classrooms
•   Successful Lectures with Computer Projection
•   Unleashing the Power of PowerPoint
•   Using Clickers (Personal Response Systems) to Facilitate Active Learning in the Classroom

I guess if we have a lot of students in class, technology is one of the best tools to solve this problem because all of the students are working and have the opportunity to get participation. However, I consider this kind of technology is not available in the high school and at university where I work because you have to pay to use the software like Blackboard and Respondus. If you get the opportunity to use them you can save time because all the activities about test and grades the software does for you.

On the other hand, Referring  ”Writing for the World: Wikipedia as an Introduction to Academic Writing”  Students can explore topics that interest them, while drawing on their multilingual resources and cultural experiences to write from a knowledgeable position. In producing a text for Wikipedia, students gain a real sense of audience and enjoy the satisfaction of seeing their work published on a high-traffic global website.

Finally,  Power Point allowed me to realize that it can increase the independence and autonomy in students because following some instructions they can learn by themselves, practice can also enhance their knowledge.
